The Maine Black Bear softball team used two great pitching performances to back a red hot offense in a doubleheader sweep over UMass-Lowell at Kessock Field Saturday afternoon, sweeping the three game weekend conference series.

In the first game Maine would jump to an early 5-0 in the first inning. The inning was highlighted by a three run double from Felicia Lennon and an RBI hit from Maddie Moore. The Bears would plate another run in the second inning when Rachel Carlson scored on a Lowell error.

Erin Bogdonavich (3-4) would do the rest as she would go the distance on the hill for the Bears allowing just four hits and striking out three.

In a mercy rule shortened five inning second game the Maine offense exploded.

Maine had a season high 17 hits and seven different Black Bears had at least two hits in the game. Kristen Niland went 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored, and a career high five RBI. Janelle Bouchard homered, scored twice, and also drove in a pair of runs.

Maine would score six runs in the first and five in the second to take an 11-0 lead before tacking on another pair in the third to make it 13-0, which ended up being the final score.

Annie Kennedy (4-3) did the work in the circle for the Black Bears allowing just two hits and had six strikeouts in the five innings. On the weekend in the three games Maine outscored UMass-Lowell 27-0 and outhit the visiting Riverhawks 34-6. Lowell falls to 5-29 overall and 0-9 in America East.

Maine is now 15-13 overall and 4-1 in the conference and winners of four straight games. Maine will next travel to Harvard on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
