If David Price and Craig Kimbrel both get into a game, most likely the 2016 Boston Red Sox will win that game. That wasn’t the case on Monday afternoon as Price and Kimbrel struggled in a 9-7 loss to Baltimore in the home opener at Fenway Park.

Things started well for the Red Soc as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Mark Trumbo sparked a five run third inning for the Orioles. Trumbo hit a three run home run off Price. The Red Sox scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to even the score at five.

The teams each scored a run in the sixth inning. The score remained tied at six until the ninth inning. That is when the Sox new closer (Kimbrel) came into the game.  Kimbrel walked Caleb Joseph with one out, he followed that with a strike out of Joey Rickard. Manny Machado walked to bring up a Chris Davis against Kimbrel matchup. Davis deposited a 0-1 pitch deep into  the center field bleachers.

The Red Sox tried to battle back in the bottom of the ninth. Mookie Betts led off with a solo home run. Dustin Pedroia followed with a single,  Xander Bogaerts walked. That brought up David Ortiz up as the winning run. Ortiz hit the ball hard, but it ended as a double play. Hanley Ramirez struck out to end the game.
