The Howlers kept their undefeated season alive on Saturday with a 3-1 semi final win over the Hawks of Hodgdon. The Howlers started their scoring 15 minutes into the game when Nick Reed placed an Isaac Doore cross past Hodgdon keeper Drew Duttweiler. The score remained 1-0 until Zach Doore blasted a volley into the upper lefhand corner with seven minutes left of the first half.
In the second half, both teams battled back and forth before Alex Tash received a Reed cross and beat the Hodgdon keeper and scored on an open net. Hodgdon attempted to battle back with a goal from Josh McGillicuddy after PVHS Keeper Lance Neal deflected a Josh Foster direct kick. The goal difference remained at 2 when Hodgdon was given an attempt to decrease it to one with a PK which was one of Neal’s key saves in the game. Neal finished the game with 13 saves on 14 shots while Duttweiler finished with 12 saves on 15 shots. The Howlers travel to Presque Isle with their girls team on Wednesday to face the Panthers of Central Aroostook. This is the first time in 33 years that both teams have made appearances in a regional final together.
