November 3, 2019

The Baltimore Ravens built an early 17-0 lead and gashed the New England Patriots defense for 210 rushing yards on Sunday night en route to a 37-20 win at M & T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland.

Baltimore (6-2) had the first possession of the game and went straight down the field with quarterback Lamar Jackson running in from three yards out to cap off an 11 play 72 yard drive. Justin Tucker added a 39 yard field goal after New England went three and out. Gus Edwards scored on a 12 yard run late in the first quarter to finish off a Ravens dominated opening 15 minutes to make it 17-0.

The Patriots got a break early in the second quarter when Cyrus Jones muffed a punt and fumbled and New Englands Justin Bethel recovered at the Ravens 20. Tom Brady found Mohammed Sanu for a four yard score to cut it to 17-7. Mark Ingram committed the second Baltimore turnover in the quarter when he fumbled at the Ravens 19 that the Patriots Lawrence Guy recovered. That led to a 22 yard field goal by Nick Folk to cut it to seven. Late in the half the Patriots were driving and looking to tie it. Passing plays of 21 yards to Ben Watson, 25 yards to Julian Edelman, and 30 yards to James White had the Patriots knocking on the door at the Baltimore 5. The Ravens defense stiffened and Folk hit a 19 yard field goal to make it 17-13 at the half.

New England (8-1) was driving again at the Baltimore 39 to start the third quarter but Edelman was stripped by Patrick Onwuasor at the 30 and Marlon Humphrey scooped it up and took it 70 yards for the score to extend the lead back to 11. The Patriots came right back in 4:18 going 75 yards in 11 plays finished off by a White one yard run. Jackson though pushed back once again finding Nick Boyle for a five yard touchdown. It was the first career TD for Boyle. Tucker missed the extra point and it was 30-20. Brady tried to respond again getting inside Baltimore territory but on 3rd and 10 was intercepted by Earl Thomas at the Ravens 8 that was returned 24 yards. Jackson put the finishing touches on the win scoring on a keeper from the 1 yard line after taking 9:35 off the clock.

Brady finished the night 30-46 passing for 285 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. White led the running game with nine carries for 38 yards and a touchdown. He also added two catches for 46 yards. Edelman and Sanu both had 10 receptions going for 89 and 81 yards respectively, and Sanu scoring a touchdown. It was the fifth time in team history that two receivers had 10 or more catches in the same game, with the last time being 2013 when Edelman and Danny Amendola did so. Don’ta Hightower had nine tackles to lead the defense. Jackson went 17-23 passing for 163 yards with one touchdown. He also added 16 rushing attempts for 61 yards and two touchdowns. Ingram had 15 carries for 115 yards. Boyle led the receiving core with five catches for 27 yards and a score, while Marquise Brown had three receptions for 48 yards. Marcus Peters had seven tackles to help the AFC North leaders end a New England winning streak that had reached 13 straight dating back to last season.

New England now has a bye week in Week 10 and will return to action on Sunday November 17 when they travel to Philadelphia to battle the Eagles at 4:25 p.m.
