Torey Krug scored a breakaway goal in overtime Saturday night as the Boston Bruins overcame a two goal deficit in the last two minutes of regulation and stunned the Minnesota Wild 5-4 at TD Garden.
Minnesota never trailed in the game until the five minute sudden death extra period. Jason Zucker scored a first period powerplay goal to make it 1-0, before Jake Debrusk scored for Boston to tie it 4:14 into the second. Victor Rask scored two minutes later to give the lead back to the Wild, before Eric Staal made it a two goal lead on the powerplay at 14:26. Boston got back within a goal headed into the third though when Brad Marchand scored with four seconds left in the period.
Kevin Fiala looked as if he had put the visitors in good position with an unassisted tally at 5:19 of the third period to make it 4-2, and the lead held up until very late with Bruins goaltender Tuuka Rask pulled for an extra attacker. Krejci scored at 18:05, and then after a penalty on the Wild the Bruins pulled Rask again and Krejci tied it 48 seconds later at 18:53 on a 6 on 4 advantage to send the Garden into delirium. Krug tallied the winner at 2:41 of overtime exploding through center ice and beating the Minnesota defense to go in alone, going forehand to backhand to beat Wild goalie Alex Stalock five hole to end it in dramatic fashion.
Rask made 32 saves in the win for Boston (15-3-5). Patrice Bergeron had four assists to lead the night in points, while Krug had a goal and two assists, and Marchand and Debrusk also added a goal and an assist. The Bruins have won three straight and are 4-0-3 in their last seven games. They are also undefeated in regulation at home so far this season (9-0-4). Stalock made 34 saves for Minnesota (9-11-3), which had a three game winning streak snapped but still kept their points streak alive at five games (3-0-2). Boston is at Montreal Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
