Zach Solow scored with just over four minutes remaining on Saturday night for Northeastern, part of a Huskies two goal third period rallying them to a 3-2 win over the Maine Black Bears in men’s Hockey East action at Matthews Arena in Boston. Paired with a 5-2 win by NU Friday night, the #13 Huskies took the weekend sweep.
Two Northeastern Huskies scored their first collegiate goals in the victory. Freshman defenseman Jayden Struble scored in the first period at 13:32 to make it 1-0. Maine (7-5-2, 4-4-2 Hockey East) though would grab the lead in the second period when Mitchell Fossier scored at 16:27, and Adam Dawe made it 2-1 Black Bears 1:31 later on the powerplay. Freshman forward Neil Shea then got his first college goal at 4:16 of the third to tie it, before Solow got the game winner at 15:47.
Jeremy Swayman made 38 saves in the loss for Maine. Craig Pantano made 26 in the win in the Northeastern net. The Black Bears went 1-5 on the powerplay, while the Huskies were 0-5. Fossier and Adrien Bisson had an assist each for Maine, while Veli-Matti Tiuraniemi had a pair. Northeastern improves to 8-4-2, 5-3-1. The Black Bears step out of Hockey East next weekend when they visit St. Lawrence out of the ECAC on Friday and Saturday night.
