Peter Murray gets 300th career coaching win as Dexter improves to 4-0 this season

GUILFORD– Peter Murray recorded his 300th coaching win on Thursday night when his Dexter Tigers defeated PCHS 58-49.

Murray is the 63rd high school basketball coach to ever reach that milestone and the 18th active coach that has at least 300 wins.

The Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never had a lead less than five from that point forward. Robbie Dorman and Brett Kusnierz combined for 14 points in the first eight minutes as Dexter held a 17-8 advantage.

The Tigers scored the first two baskets of the second quarter to build the score to 21-8. Kobe Gilbert drained a three pointer to cut the Pirates deficit to 21-11. After a Dexter basket, PCHS went on a 7-0 run to make it 23-18. Freshman Will Kusnierz came off the bench to stop the momentum and give the Tigers a seven point lead. Dexter ended the half on an 8-0 run capped by a Brett Kusnierz three pointer.

Gilbert and Wayne Haley combined to make 4 three pointers and score 16 points in the third quarter to help the Pirates outscore Dexter 17-11, and cut the deficit to 46-37.

Gilbert drained a three pointer to make it 48-40 early in the fourth quarter. The lead wouldn’t get any closer as the Tigers had five different scorers in the final eight minutes.

Gilbert led the Pirates with 26 points (6 three pointers) and 11 rebounds. Haley put in nine points, Matt Robinson chipped in with seven points Carter Starbird had five points and nine rebounds. Colby Chadwick came off the bench to score two points and grab seven rebounds. Preston Ricker made one free throw. PCHS (1-4) is scheduled to host Penquis on Saturday.

Dorman led a balanced Tigers attack with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Brett Kusnierz recorded 13 points, seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals. Nate Richards filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Will Kusnierz chipped in with six points. Parker Ponte had five points and three assists, while Haedyn Geunther put in three points. Dexter (4-0) will host Bucksport on Saturday

Dexter had 19 assists on 25 field goals. PCHS out rebounded the Tigers 37-24. The Pirates turned the ball over 14 times, while Dexter had only eight turnovers. PCHS shot 3-10 from the free throw line, while Dexter shot 3-7.
