Things were quiet for the Boston Red Sox offense through the first six innings on Friday night. That changed in the seventh inning when Jackie Bradley JR hit a double that scored Travis Shaw and Brock Holt. That offense continued in the eighth inning when David Ortiz put one in the green monster seats to lift the Red Sox to a 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees at Fenway Park.
Matt Barnes, Koji Uehara, and Craig Kimbrel pitched three perfect innings of relief. Henry Owens turned in a quality start, he allowed two runs in six innings. The Red Sox played another solid defensive game. They turned four double plays in the first five innings, Holt threw a base runner out at home from left field, while Xander Bogaerts and Hanley Ramirez turned in a great play in the ninth inning.
Game two of the three game series will be Saturday night at 7:10. Michael Pineda is scheduled to pitch for the Yankees, while Rick Porcello will bring his 4-0 record to the mound for the Red Sox.
