DEXTER– Lexi Ireland went 9-11 from the free throw line, including 5-7 in the fourth quarter to help PVHS hold off Dexter and earn a 34-30 victory on Friday night at Ed Guiski Gymnasium.
The Howlers made the first basket, Dexter responded to even the score. PVHS would never trail as Laney Harding made a three pointer to make it 5-2. The Tigers would even the score at seven when Peyton Grant drilled a three pointer late in the first quarter
PVHS went on an 8-0 run that expanded until Cheyenne Beem broke up the run with a bucket at the 5:15 mark in the second quarter. The Howlers held a 19-12 lead heading into intermission behind Ireland’s 10 points in the half.
PVHS outscored Dexter 8-4 in the third quarter as the Howlers held a 27-16 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Dexter started the fourth quarter on a 11-2 run behind the shooting of Grant. She connected on eight straight points to bring the Tigers within two (29-27). Lexi Ireland made two free throws to give the Howlers a 31-27 lead with one minute left. Ireland would make 1-2 to expand the lead to 32-27. Grant gave the Tigers a chance when she made a very long three pointer to make it 32-30. The Tigers had the ball with 10 seconds left but missed a three pointer, Ireland got the rebound and made two free throws with 0.6 seconds left to seal the win.

She also filled up the stat sheet with 14 rebounds, four steals, two assists, and two blocks. Emilee Ireland recorded six points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Harding had five points and two steals. Emily St. Cyr added four points and two assists. Leine McKechnie had the responsibility of guarding Grant, she held her to three points through the first three quarters. PVHS (4-2) will next play on Saturday, December 28th when they take on Lee Academy at the Cross Insurance Center at 5 PM.
Grant scored a team high 14 points (4 three pointers) for the Tigers. Cloe Mountain added five points and three assists. Elizabeth Kinney and Jozylnn Paige put in four points each, while Beem recorded two points, five rebounds, and four assists. Dexter (3-2) will host Mattanawcook on Monday.
PVHS out rebounded Dexter 26-17. The Howlers shot 9-11 from the free throw line, while Dexter shot 4-6.
