Dexter boys basketball improves to 9-0 with win over Penquis

DEXTER– Nate Richards scored 22 points to lead a balance attack and power the Dexter Tigers to a 69-31 win over Penquis on Tuesday night at Ed Guiski Gymnasium.

Dexter started the game on an 8-0 run and ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run, as the Tigers held a 17-4 lead after the opening eight minutes. Penquis cut the deficit to 19-7 early in the second quarter. Dexter followed that with an 11-0 run to take a commanding 30-7 advantage.

Dexter held a 36-11 halftime lead behind Richards who recorded nine points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks in the first 16 minutes. Brett Kusnierz also had nine points in the first half.

Dexter outscored the Patriots 33-20 in the second half. Richards also recorded seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks to go along with his game high point total. Brett Kusnierz finished with 13 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Robbie Dorman also finished in double figures with 10 points, three rebounds, and two steals. Haedyn Geunther had nine points, while Will Kusnierz added eight points and four rebounds. Avery Gagnon and Jacob Campbell had five and two points respectively. Parker Ponte played a solid game with five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Dexter (9-0) will host Central on Friday night.

Camron Bailey led the Patriots with 12 points and seven rebounds. Corbin Cyr had six points, while Jake Levasseur recorded five points, three rebounds, and two steals. Alvin Robshaw chipped in with four points. Mikal Sickler and Trevor Saunders chipped in with two points each. Penquis (1-8) will play at Searsport on Friday night.

Dexter out rebounded Penquis 33-16. The Tigers shot 6-12 from the free throw line, while the Patriots shot 5-11.
