Husson Battles Past Bowdoin 84-76 In Mens Basketball Action

Bangor,ME- The Husson University men’s basketball team defeated Bowdoin College 84-76 Tuesday night in a back and forth game at the Newman Gymnasium in non-conference action.

Each team took some time to get the offense going early in the first half with the score tied at 9-9 with just over 11 minutes to go. The Eagles opened up the first multi possession gap just over the midway point, and was stretched to 14 points with just over four minutes left. The Polar Bears would go on a run to end the first 20 minutes and would trail 40-33 at halftime.

The second half was a game of runs as Bowdoin would close the halftime gap and each team would not get a lead bigger than five points. The Polar Bears opened up their only multi possession lead of the night with just over eight minutes left when they led 58-53. The Eagles would take the lead for good with 3:08 remaining on a Bruce St Peter layup making it 71-70. Justice Kendall hit a three point shot to stretch it out to five at 77-72 with 1:05 to go. Husson got clutch free throws from DJ Bussey, St Peter, and Kendall to seal the victory in the final minute.

The Eagles were led by Kendall with 23 points. Brett Cunningham added 11 points. J Thomas scored 9 points off the bench.

The Polar Bears were led by Sam Grad and David Reynolds who each had 19 points. Grad added three blocks and six rebounds. Jack Shea contributed 12 points off the bench.

Husson wins their second straight game and improves to 8-12 overall on the season with four games remaining, all in the NAC. They travel to Vermont this weekend for a game with NVU Lyndon and NVU Johnson.

Bowdoin moves to 7-13 overall and has four games remaining on their schedule and will host two NESCAC games this weekend versus Amherst and Hamilton.
