BANGOR— Maddy Emerson may only be a sophomore but she showed up like a veteran leader in a 44-34 Old Town win over Houlton in a Class B girls quarterfinal game played Saturday morning at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Coyotes never trailed in the first quarter and held the biggest lead at 9-5 at the end of the first eight minutes. Houlton took their first lead (12-11) on an Abby Worthley bucket with 2:20 left in the first half. Emerson gave the Coyotes a lead (15-14) they wouldn’t give back. Old Town ended the first half on a 6-0 run and held an 18-14 advantage at halftime.
Old Town also ended the third quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 30-23 lead into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was Emerson’s time to shine. She had the nine points, including going 3-4 from the free throw line. Hannah Richards also made two free throws down the stretch to help secure the win.
Teagan Ewings and Rebecca Howe each scored nine points to lead the Shires. Drew Warman made 2 three pointers, while Mia Henderson filled up the stat sheet with three points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Houlton finishes the season with a record of 12-8.
Emerson led the Coyotes with 17 points (13 in second half) and two steals. Richards added 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Lexi Thibodeau chipped in with six points, nine rebounds, and two steals, while Sydney Loring had five points, 10 rebounds, and three steals. Old Town (14-5) will play in a semifinal game on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 against top seed Hermon.
