AUGUSTA- The second state championship of the day would decide who would take home the gold ball for boys Class D basketball. The game pinned Southern Maine champs Forest Hills, against Northern Maine champs Machias. In a fast paced game it would be Forest Hills getting the win 69-53, capping off their second straight 22-0 undefeated state championship season.
The theme of the night, three pointers. Forest Hills made six of their 11 total threes in the first quarter. Those 11 threes would set a new Class D boys basketball record for a single game. The records didn’t stop there. Hunter Cuddy had 16 points on the night, with a record tying five three pointers in the game.
Another key contributor for the Tigers would be Parker Desjardins. Desjardins poured in 18 of his total 28 points in the fourth quarter, helping to seal the game for the Tigers. These points would help him pass Evan Worster for the school record in points. Desjardins needed 22 coming into the game to pass Worster’s record of 1,555 points, and he capped off his junior season with 1,561. Mason Desjardins also had a solid night scoring 21, with 17 coming in the first half.
A young Machias team was led by sophomore Kashman Feeney who had 16 points and nine rebounds. Shane Feeney also added 12 points on the night. The Bulldogs finish their season at 12-9.
