Regionalized schedule could be part of plan if high school sports happens this fall

June 14, 2020

The fall high school sports season is scheduled to begin on August 17th. Of course there is still many things up in the air. Brewer Athletic Director David Utterback made a proposal to the Maine Principals’ Association earlier this week.

The highlight of the proposal was baseball and softball season being moved from the spring to the fall, while football and soccer would be moved from fall to spring. To see the full story, go here.

Another concern is traveling to games. In Iowa, where high school baseball season is about to start there is a limit of 13 people on a 77 person capacity bus. So if sports is able to happen this fall, teams going to a more regionalized schedule. That would allow for example the JV and varsity teams to take separate busses or the softball and baseball teams to travel separately. For that full story click here.

Of course a lot could change for the better or worse before any decisions are made or even after the decisions are made. But one thing we can all agree on and that is – hopefully the kids can play.
