Aubuchons takes advantage of walks in win over RJ Morin

OLD TOWN- Aubuchons took advantage of 12 walks and scored five fourth inning runs on Wednesday evening to pick up a 10-4 Little League win over RJ Morin at K of C Field.

Aubuchons took an early 3-0 lead serving as the home team in the bottom of the first inning. An RBI single from Drew Ellis, an error, and four walks from RJ Morin starting pitcher Brady Whalen led to the early advantage. With the score still the same in the top of the third, visiting RJ Morin would even the score. RBI hits from Aidan Sucy and Tommy King cut it to 3-2, and King later scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-3. The hosts regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Issac Depaw scored on a wild pitch after beginning the inning by reaching on an error by second baseman Brayden Albert.

The hosts would break the game open in the fourth. Three walks, an error, a two run single by Ellis, and an RBI groundout by Depew led to the five run outburst to make it 9-3. Aubuchons got their final run of the night on a wild pitch scoring Colin Lolar in the fifth, while RJ Morin also got one in the fifth on a wild pitch scoring King to make up the final six run difference. Aubuchons was outhit 8-4, but took advantage of the free passes and also combined to strikeout 14 batters in the win.

David Godfrey got the win in relief of Alex Bean. Bean went the first 3.0 innings allowing three runs (one earned), five hits, with two walks and eight strikeouts. Godfrey pitched the final 3.0 allowing one earned run, three hits, with one walk and six strikeouts. Whalen pitched the first 3.0 innings and picked up the loss for RJ Morin allowing four runs (one earned), two hits, with five walks and five strikeouts. King pitched 2.0 innings in relief and had trouble finding the strike zone at times allowing six runs (three earned), one hit, with seven walks and three strikeouts.

Old Town Little League Majors Division started play on Monday with four teams from Old Town and one from Orono. The teams play an eight game regular season, with playoffs to begin on August 17 and a championship game slated for August 20. All games are scheduled to be played at K of C Field on Gilman Falls Avenue in Old Town.
