OLD TOWN- Scott Sockabasin reached base all three times, knocked in a pair, scored three runs, and also pitched a very solid game on the mound Wednesday evening as Orono IGA topped Kiwanis 8-6 at K of C Field in Old Town Little League action.

IGA (2-2) took the lead early playing as the home team in the bottom of the first. After Bryson Davis struck out, Brady Davis hit a ground ball single to left center. Sockabasin was next up and tattooed a long homerun that cleared the right field fence by five feet. Davis didn’t touch home plate though coming home and it stayed just 1-0 after one. IGA added to their the lead in the second on three errors and an infield single by Mason McCann to make it 3-0. Kiwanis got on the board in the third on a pair of walks, a passed ball, and two wild pitches to cut the deficit to 3-1. The home team though pulled away again scoring two in the third on an error, two wild pitches, and an RBI double off the bottom of the center field fence by Sockabasin who also would score in the inning to extend it to 5-1.

Kiwanis (3-1) got a single run back in the fifth when Tyler Blackwood reached on an error by the right fielder, and ended up coming all the way around to score on a throwing error by the second baseman trying to cut down Blackwood at third base. Three walks, two passed balls, another Kiwanis error, and a two run single by Colby Drost though in the bottom half of the fifth plated three more as IGA looked to be in control of the game at 8-2. Sockabasin struckout the first two Kiwanis batters in their last at bat in the sixth and then reached his pitch count. Drost came on for relief but couldn’t record an out as Kiwanis rallied striking on infield hits from Dominic Layman and Kevin Pina and walks by Donovan Davis, Carter Osnoe, and Marcus Cote to slice it to just a two run game. Brady Davis then came in for an attempted save with the tying run at the plate, and got Blackwood to ground out to first to Sockabasin who took it to the bag unassisted to end it and send Kiwanis to their first loss.

Sockabasin went 5.2 innings to get the win allowing two runs (one earned), one hit, with three walks and 14 strikeouts. He struckout the side twice and had at least two punchouts in each inning pitched. Drost didn’t record an out and allowed four runs on two hits with three walks. Brady Davis got the save retiring the only batter he faced. Osnoe took the loss for Kiwanis allowing five runs (two earned), four hits, with two walks and six strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Layman pitched 1.0 inning allowing three runs (two earned), one hit, with three walks and one strikeout.
