Sox head to Yankee Stadium after back to back wins over the Mets

July 31, 2020

The Boston Red Sox renew their rivalry on Friday night when they head to Yankee Stadium for the first game of a three game set with the New York Yankees.

Boston (3-4) after losing the first two of a home and home Interleague series at Fenway with the New York Mets, bounced back on the road with two wins in a row when the series shifted to Citi Field on Wednesday and Thursday nights. On Thursday, Christian Vazquez hit a two run homer and a solo shot off New York starter Steven Matz as he continues his sizzling start at the plate for the Sox to lead them a 4-2 win. The catcher is batting .421 early on with four homers, three in the last two games. Martin Perez (1-1) earned the pitching win allowing just two runs over 5.2 innings, becoming the first one to earn a win this season in a game not started by Nathan Eovaldi. Brandon Workman got his second save in as many nights.

The Red Sox and Yankees are scheduled for a 7:05 first pitch Friday night. Left hander Jordan Montgomery goes for 4-1 New York, while Boston will send out Ryan Weber. Weber (0-1) will look to bounce back after being hammered for six runs on six hits in just 3.2 innings against Baltimore last Saturday at Fenway in a 7-4 Sox loss.
