August 21, 2020

OLD TOWN- Ben King had an infield single to score the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning Friday evening, giving RJ Morin the 2020 Old Town Little League Majors Division championship with a 7-6 comeback win over Kiwanis at K of C Field.

RJ Morin (7-3) began the scoring in the bottom of the first when B. King and Tommy King both had singles, with both of them also crossing home plate on a passed ball and an error to make it 2-0. Kiwanis (6-4) would then rally to take a three run lead. Two errors, a hit by Carter Osnoe, a walk, and an RBI groundout by Tyler Blackwood in the top of the second led to three runs to make it 3-2 Kiwanis. They added two more in the third on two errors and RBI hits by Dominic Layman and Donovan Davis to stretch it to 5-2. RJ Morin rallied back within a run in the bottom half of the third on two walks, a single by T. King, and a passed ball to cut it to 5-4. Blackwood gave Kiwanis back a two run advantage when he hit a hard line drive to left center that went all the way to the fence for an inside the park homerun in the fourth. Aidan Sucy and T. King had fifth inning hits that cut it to 6-5, and that’s where it stood until the last at bat for the home team RJ Morin. Brayden Albert struck out to start their at bats, before Brody Whalen reached on an error. Hunter Corriveau then popped out to Kiwanis pitcher Osnoe for the second out. Osnoe had then reached his pitch count and had to be replaced by Kevin Pina. With Pina on the mound, Whalen stole second base and then ended up tying the game 6-6 on two wild pitches. Pina then walked both Will Chapman and Aiden Omeara. B. King then hit a slow grounder up the middle that Kiwanis shortstop Davis fielded, but didn’t have enough time enough to throw to first base and Chapman was able to score the winning run.

T. King got the win in relief on the mound for RJ Morin allowing two earned runs, five hits, with two walks and five strikeouts in 3.2 innings. B. King had started and allowed four runs (two earned), two hits, with one walk and three strikeouts in 2.1 innings. T. King had three hits and B. King had two to lead the offense. Pina took the loss with the blown save for Kiwanis, not able to record an out in the sixth inning with three batters faced. Osnoe got charged with six runs (four earned), five hits, with two walks and four strikeouts in the 5.2 inning effort. Hayden Summerlin had two hits and reached base all four times in the loss.
