Six players added back to Sox roster, Patriots injury updates for Sunday

October 31, 2020

The Boston Red Sox added Dustin Pedroia, Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, Andrew Benintendi, Colten Brewer, and Kyle Hart back to their 40 man roster on Saturday.

According to reports from the Boston Globe, Pedroia and the Red Sox are expected to mutually agree on ending his contract and career due to injury problems. Pedroia hasn’t appeared in a major league game since April 17, 2019 and hasn’t played a full season since 2017. He played in just six games in 2019 batting just .100 (2-20). Sale is reinstated after having Tommy John surgery and missing the entire 2020 season. Rodriguez was expected to be the 2020 opening day starter but on July 17 an MRI revealed heart complications due to COVID-19, and he was shut down for the season. Benintendi only appeared in 14 games this past season before suffering a rib injury against Tampa Bay on August 11 that landed him on the 45 day injured list. The outfielder only batted .103 (4-39) in limited time. Brewer strained a finger on his pitching hand in September, while Hart injured his left hip in the same month.

The New England Patriots announced some key injuries leading up to their AFC East clash with the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, New York at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Receivers Julian Edelman (knee) and N’Keal Harry (concussion) are out, as is cornerback Stephon Gilmore (knee), safety Kyle Dugger (ankle), and offensive lineman Justin Herron (ankle). Activated off the injured reserve was rookie linebacker Josh Uche and safety Corey Davis. Running back Sony Michel was removed from the COVID-19 list, but is still on injured reserve. Defensive tackle Nick Thurman was also signed to the 53 man roster. It’s been rumored that Gilmore could be traded ahead of a Tuesday trade deadline, and Edelman was also placed on injured reserve and may miss up to at least three games. New England (2-4) has lost three straight games and have only scored a total of 28 points in those losses.
