November 9, 2020

Nick Folk hit a 51 yard field goal as time expired Monday night, lifting the New England Patriots to a come from behind 30-27 win over the New York Jets at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

New York (0-9) had the ball first and marched down the field to the New England 17 yard line where they settled for a 35 yard Sergio Castillo field goal. The Patriots took their only first half lead on their first possession when Cam Newton scored on a five yard run, set up by a Newton to Jacobi Myers 33 yard pass. Joe Flacco regained the Jets lead on a 50 yard touchdown pass to Breshad Perriman early in the second quarter. New York added a 50 yard Castillo field goal to make it 13-7, before Folk cut it to three with a 45 yard kick. The hosts built their lead to 10 at halftime when Flacco threw his second TD of the first half of 20 yards to Jamison Crowder with 29 seconds left.

New England (3-5) took the second half kickoff and cut it to a three point deficit once again when Rex Burkhead scored on a one yard run to cap off 13 play, 78 yard drive. New York responded once again and made it 27-17 when Perriman hauled in his second score of the night from Flacco of 15 yards with 30 seconds left in the quarter. The Patriots would cut it to seven when Folk hit another field goal with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter, and then JC Jackson intercepted Flacco on the next offensive play for the Jets. The visitors would tie it 27-27 on that ensuing possession when Newton scored on a one yard keeper with 1:57 left to play. New York went three and out and punted, giving New England one more chance. Newton would hit Myers on a key throw for 20 yards to the Jets 33 yard line with just three seconds left that would set it up for the game winner for Folk to end a four game losing skid.

Newton finished 27-35 passing for 274 yards, and also added 10 rushes for 16 yards and two touchdowns in the New England win. Damien Harris ran 14 times for 71 yards before leaving with an injury in the fourth quarter, while Burkhead added 12 runs for 56 yards and a score. Myers had a career night with 12 catches for 169 yards. Adrian Phillips had seven total tackles to lead the defense. Jackson leads the league with five interceptions, getting his fourth in the last four games. Flacco was 18-25 passing for 262 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception in the New York loss. The quarterback would surpass Joe Montana though for number 20 on the list in all-time passing yardage. Frank Gore rushed 12 times for 46 yards, and Perriman had a big night with five catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Harvey Langi and Blessuan Austin each had nine tackles for the defense, as the Jets go to 0-9 for the first time in franchise history. They only ran four plays for three yards in the fourth quarter and only had the ball for 1:24, and were outscored 13-0. New England will return home to host Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday night at 8:20 p.m.
