Hayward signs four year contact with the Hornets

November 21, 2020

After opting out of a 34.1 million dollar player option for the upcoming 2020-21 season with the Boston Celtics and becoming a free agent, now former Boston, Butler, and Utah Jazz guard Gordon Hayward is signing a four year deal with the Charlotte Hornets.

The news of the signing was confirmed by several sources Saturday afternoon and will pay Hayward 120 million dollars. He started in 72 games over three seasons with Boston averaging 10.3 points per game, after spending seven seasons in Utah. Hayward has been hampered with injury since his arrival in Boston, including a fractured tibia and dislocated ankle that ended his season in his first game as a Celtic in the season opener in 2017-18. The new contract could be a sign and trade deal for the two teams, but was uncertain at the time of the signing.
