In a press release late Tuesday afternoon, the University of Maine announced that the Black Bears have gotten clearance to start/continue their winter sports season this week.
The Maine women’s ice hockey team is the only ones to have played any countable games, splitting a series at Holy Cross on November 20 and 21. The University then shut down varsity sports for two weeks on November 24 after some presumed positives and close contact. Since that times there has been no positive tests in any athlete, coach, or staff across the winter varsity teams. Men’s Hockey will now play at Durham, New Hampshire (originally scheduled for Orono) against UNH on Friday and Saturday as will the women’s team with game times to be announced. The Black Bears women’s basketball team will open Thursday at Providence (scheduled for 2 p.m.) and at Rhode Island Friday (6 p.m.). Men’s basketball doesn’t have any scheduled games until their conference openers on December 19 and 20 at Hartford. The women’s team also just has these two games as non-conference, as Amy Vachons squad is scheduled to open their America East schedule at home on the 19th and 20th also against the Hartford Hawks.
