Dexter boys basketball survives fourth quarter surge to get by PCHS

DEXTER- Will Kusnierz went 3-5 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to help the Dexter Tigers hold off the PCHS Pirates for a 51-47 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Ed Guiski gymnasium.

Dexter held a 37-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter. That is when Kobe Gilbert took over, scoring 17 points in the final quarter and giving the Pirates a 45-41 lead. Dexter scored the final seven points of the contest sparked by a steal and a basket from Robbie Dorman with 1:10 remaining to give the Tigers a lead they wouldn’t give back.

Gilbert finished with 31 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, and two assists for the Pirates. Gilbert was named the Our FAMBily restaurant player of the game. Buddy Hutchins scored five points, freshman Scott Chadbourne recorded four points and four rebounds. Christian Easler added three points and seven rebounds, while Matt Chadbourne chipped in with two points.

Will Kusnierz led Dexter (2-0) with 16 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Kusnierz was named Jersey Sub unsung hero of the game. Dorman finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Brett Kusnierz also finished in double figures with 10 points, Avery Gagnon had five points, including a first quarter three points, while Parker Ponte and Seth Robbins finished with three and two points respectively.
