The Boston Bruins finally broke out of their even strength goal slump on Thursday night at an opportune time. Jack Studnicka, Charlie Coyle, Nick Ritchie, and Brandon Carlo all scored in the third period, and Jake Debrusk scored a goal in a shootout leading to a 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden in Boston.
Boston (2-1-1) went 220:57 without scoring an even strength goal before Studnicka scored 57 seconds into the third period to get the Bruins on the board, after Claude Giroux and James van Reimsdyk had staked Philadelphia to a 2-0 lead with goals in the second. Coyle scored at 2:06 even strength as well to tie it, before Travis Sanheim put the Flyers back up a goal at 7:13. Ritchie scored a powerplay goal at 13:22, and Carlo gave the B’s their first lead of the game 1:56 later. The guests though sent it to overtime when van Reimsdyk netted a powerplay marker just 1:10 after Carlo gave Boston the lead. Debrusk was the last skater for the home team in the shootout, and would score on a toe drag move scoring on a high wrist shot stick side. Giroux was stopped by Tuuka Rask on Philadelphias last attempt.
Rask made 22 saves in the win. Ritchie had a goal and an assist, while David Krejci added two helpers to spur the comeback. Carter Hart stopped 39 in the net for Philadelphia, as the Flyers drop to 3-1-1. Jake Voracek had three assists, van Reimsdyk the two goals, and Kevin Hayes also added two assists in the loss. Same two teams will faceoff again in Boston Saturday night at 7.
