Anne Simon scored a game high 22 points, and Blanca Millan had 20 on Saturday afternoon as the Maine Black Bears used a strong second half to defeat the Binghamton Bearcats 67-46 in America East women’s basketball at the Events Center in Vestal, New York.
Maine (11-1, 8-1 America East) played a sloppy first half committing 12 turnovers, which is right around their season average per game. The visitors however were able to come away with a 24-21 halftime lead. The Black Bears forced Binghamton into 13 third quarter turnovers and would open it up with a 16-0 run going up by 19. They would continue that into the fourth and would push the advantage to as many as 28 in winning their sixth consecutive game, outscoring the Bearcats 43-25 in the second 20 minutes.
Simon added seven rebounds and five steals to her point total in the Black Bears win, while Millan had six steals and also moved into fifth place all-time on the schools scoring list. Maeve Carroll had a solid game as well with 12 points and nine rebounds. Dor Saar was held to four points, but added eight assists and three steals and also scored her 1,000th career point. Anna Kahelin also played 12 minutes, the first time since a season ending ACL injury in a America East quarterfinal win last March. Binghamton, who drops to 4-9 and 4-7 in the conference, ends up with 24 turnovers after just eight in the first half. Denai Bowman had eight points and seven rebounds to lead the Bearcats in the loss. The teams finish off their two game weekend series at Binghamton Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
