Kuoppala goal lifts Maine women’s hockey to a win

Ida Kuoppala scored a game winning third period goal on Saturday afternoon, as the Maine women’s hockey team got past Merrimack College 2-1 at Lawler Rink in North Andover, Massachusetts in Hockey East action.

Maine (6-7-0, 6-7-0 Hockey East) struck first on the powerplay when Rachel Enzler scored her second of the season at 3:05 of the opening period. The score stayed the same until Ally Qualley evened it for MC at 18:20 of the second. Kuoppala got the game winner at 13:37 of the final period on an assist from Morgan Trimper.

Loryn Porter made 24 saves in net in the Maine win. Taylor Leetch and Celine Tedenby had assists on the Enzler goal. Emma Gorski had 25 saves in the loss for Merrimack, who falls to 1-14-0, 1-14-0. The teams finish off the two game series on Sunday at 2 p.m.
