GUILFORD- The Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) Howlers outrebounded Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) Pirates 46-21 and rolled to a 65-44 boys basketball win on Wednesday afternoon.
The Howlers broke open a close game by outscoring the Pirates 19-7 in the third quarter. Alex Tash scored 10 of his team high 28 points in that quarter.
PVHS led 15-13 after the first quarter and 27-26 at the half. Tash (13) and Zach Mitchell (12) combined for 25 first half points. Kobe Gilbert kept the Pirates very much in the game with 17 of his game high 30 points in the first half.
The Howlers dominated the boards as they had four players with at least six rebounds. Shane Borrello pulled down 14 rebounds, while Lance Neal had a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Mitchell had 14 points and eight rebounds. Tash had four rebounds and two assists to go along with his 28 points. Borrello added seven points and three assists. Gabe Castonguay added four points, while William Brown had two points and four assists, and Bryce Seeley had two points, six rebounds, and three steals. Tash was the Our FAMBily Restaurant Player of the Game. Borrello was the Jersey Sub Unsung Hero of the Game.
Gilbert had six rebounds, four assists, and three blocks to go along with his 30 points. Gilbert is 29 points shy of 1000 career points with two regular season games remaining. Scott Chadbourne added seven points, while Christian Easler and Matt Chadbourne had four and three points respectively.
