DOVER-FOXCROFT- Peyton Grant scored 17 of her game high 42 points in the third quarter to lead the Dexter Tigers to a 65-31 win over Foxcroft Academy on Friday night.
Grant made a three pointer to get the scoring started. The Ponies responded with four straight points, including two free throws from Meghan Spooner that would give Foxcroft a 4-3 lead with 5:15 left in the first quarter. Elizabeth Kinney made a jumper to give the Tigers a lead they would never give back as they ended the quarter on an 11-1 run.
The Tigers (11-0) outscored Foxcroft 12-8 in the second quarter to take a 26-13 halftime advantage. The Ponies got the first four points of the second half to cut the deficit to 26-17, but Grant took over from there scoring 17 of the Tigers 21 points in the quarter as they took a 47-24 lead to the final eight minutes of play. Dexter outscored Foxcroft 18-7 in the final quarter.
Ainsley Ade led the Ponies (1-8) with eight points and six rebounds. Emily Harmon-Weeks put in five points. Kiya Cook, Spooner, and Destiny Weymouth added four points each, while Kamryn Commeau chipped in with two points
Grant had four assists, three rebounds, three steals, one block, and made 6 three pointers to go along with her game high point total for the Tigers. Avery Herrick came off the bench to chip in nine points and five rebounds. Kinney had eight points and three rebounds. Cheyenne Beem and Jozlynn Paige added two points each. Abi Wakefield didn’t score but contributed with a solid defensive effort and had six rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Grant was named Our FAMBily Restaurant Player of the Game. Wakefield was named Jersey Sub Unsung Hero of the Game.
Dexter shot 12-13 from the free throw line, while the Ponies shot 7-12. The Tigers out rebounded Foxcroft 23-19. Dexter won the JV game 30-28 in overtime.
