Huge second period propels Bruins to win at Lake Tahoe

David Pastrnak had a hat trick and the Boston Bruins scored four second period goals Sunday night, taking down the Philadelphia Flyers 7-3 in an outdoor game played at Lake Tahoe.

The teams swapped goals on two different occasions in the first period. Pastrnak scored 34 seconds in for an early 1-0 Boston lead, before Joel Farabee answered for Philadelphia at the 6:41 mark. The Flyers took their only lead of the night when Sean Couturier tallied his third goal of the season at 14:48. Charlie McAvoy had the response to tie it again at 15:27. The second goal of the night for Pastrnak gave the Bruins the lead for good at 46 seconds of the middle period and started an onslaught for Boston. Later in the second period they would score three times in just 1:39. Charlie Coyle got the eventual game winner and his third of the season at 16:14, Trent Frederic with his first career NHL goal at 16:47, and Nick Ritchie with his sixth on the year on the powerplay at 17:53 made it 6-2. The teams swapped goals in the final period when James van Reimsdyk scored on a powerplay at 12:45, and Pastrnak finished off his three goal night at 17:04.

Tuuka Rask made 16 saves in the win for Boston, as the Bruins improve to 11-3-2. They had several multiple scorers on the night including Pastrnak with his three goals, and also Craig Smith, John Moore, Brad Marchand, and Connor Clifton with two assists a piece, and Ritchie with one goal and also one assist. Carter Hart made 17 saves on 23 shots in his 40 minutes in net in the Philadelphia loss, and Brian Elliott stopped 11 of 12 in the third period in relief of Hart. Van Reimsdyk had a goal and two assists, as they see their record drop to 8-4-3. The Bruins have now won all five meetings with the Flyers this season. Boston returns to action Thursday night on Long Island against the New York Islanders.
