DEXTER– Peyton Grant scored 14 of her game high 29 points in the first quarter to lead the Dexter Tigers to a 52-24 win over Penobscot Valley High School (PVHS) at Ed Guiski Gymnasium on Tuesday afternoon. With the win the Tigers won the Penquis Penobscot pod championship and finished with a record of 15-0.
Grant helped set the tone early as the Tigers went on a 16-0 first quarter run. Grant had 4 three pointers in the first eight minutes of play. PVHS outscored the Tigers 8-7 in the second quarter as Dexter held a 29-13 halftime lead.
The Howlers scored the first five points of the second half to cut the deficit to 29-18 with four minutes left in the third quarter. The Tigers took over from that point as seniors Cheyenne Beem and Grant sparked an 18-0 run that extended into the fourth quarter.
Beem hit a three pointer to give the Tigers a 32-18 lead. Grant scored the next five points, while Avery Herrick and Grant each added a hoop late in the quarter as Dexter took a 41-18 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
Grant made 7 three pointers and added three assists. Beem filled up the stat sheet with eight points, five steals, three rebounds, and three assists. Herrick came off the bench to score six points and grab five rebounds. Elizabeth Kinney and Jozlynn Paige had four points each, while Abi Wakefield had one point and seven rebounds. Photos

Kaya Loring, Becca Carson, and Holly Loring finished with six points each for the Howlers. Emile Ireland had four points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Emily St. Cyr chipped in with two points. PVHS finished the season with a record of 7-7.
