Cedric Mullins and Pedro Severino each had two hits, and Matt Harvey had a solid start on the mound in his first game with his new team as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox 4-2 at Fenway Park on Saturday afternoon.
Maikel Franco had a two run single in the fourth for Baltimore for a 2-0 lead. Marwin Gonzalez answered for Boston with a sacrifice fly for an RBI in the bottom half. Anthony Santander got the game winning hit on an infield single to shortstop that went for an RBI in the top of the fifth inning. JD Martinez had three hits in the game, and manufactured the only other Red Sox run with an RBI infield single.
Tanner Houck (0-1) took the loss for Boston on the hill allowing two earned runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Harvey got a no decision and allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Adam Plutko (1-0) got the win in relief for Baltimore, and Cesar Valdez got his second save. The Red Sox, who were held to just two hits in the season opener on Friday in a 3-0 loss, will try to salvage one game out of the series on Sunday afternoon. Garrett Richards will toe the rubber for Boston, while Baltimore counters with left hander Bruce Zimmermann.
