The Husson baseball and softball teams would continue their series on Sunday afternoon with North Atlantic Conference doubleheaders against the University of Maine-Farmington and Northern Vermont-Lyndon respectively.
At Hippach Field in Farmington, the Eagles baseball team made it five straight over the UMF Beavers by sweeping the four game weekend series with 6-5 and 6-1 wins.
UMF had taken a 4-3 lead in game one in the bottom of the fifth inning, but David Leblanc came up with the game winning three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning to lead Husson to the one run win. Chris Ewanik and Nick Swift had a pair of hits each to lead the Eagles, with Ewanik adding a solo homerun. Logan Sheridan (1-0) got his first win of the season in relief on the mound, and Ryan Robb his first save. In game two Leblanc, Ewanik, and Brandon Smith had two hits each to complete the Sunday sweep and the weekend sweep with a five run victory. Leblanc had another three RBI and Jackson Curtis added a two-run homerun. Alex Brooks (1-0) won on the hill allowing one run on three hits with no walks and three strikeouts in 3.1 innings. Husson is now 5-4, 5-0 in North Atlantic Conference play. UMF falls to 0-6, 0-5.
In Bangor at O’Keefe Field, the Husson softball team continued their dominance over the visiting Northern Vermont-Lyndon Hornets winning two more by mercy rule in five innings by scores of 8-0 and 14-2.
Sydney Ames and Katie Windsor both had two hits and two RBI each in the game one win. Erin Bonenfant also had a pair of hits. Ames (7-1) picked up another win in the circle allowing just two hits with no walks and four strikeouts in the 5.0 innings. In game two the Eagles scored six runs in both the third and fourth innings to complete the Sunday sweep and the weekend sweep, with all four wins coming by the mercy rule. Raymond, Whitney Bess, and Kimmie Goddard each had two hits. Jen Jones also added a three run double. Jill Bisson (2-0) earned the pitching win allowing two runs (none earned) and three hits in 4.0 innings. NVU-Lyndon got their first runs of the weekend on a sacrifice fly and a passed ball in the fourth inning. Husson improves to 15-1, 8-0 in the conference. NVU-Lyndon is 2-8, 2-4.
Next up all in conference play the baseball team begins a five game series with NVU-Lyndon starting with a single game in Vermont on Thursday afternoon, and then the teams shift to Bangor to play four more on the weekend. The softball team will play four at home with the University of Maine-Farmington beginning on Saturday.
