Middle Tennessee State University head women’s basketball coach Rick Insell announced Thursday that former University of Maine point guard Dor Saar has transferred to the school, using her final year of eligibility.

Saar was a three-time America East All-Conference selection at Maine. She set the school record with 235 three-pointers, and is second in all-time assists with 507. She is the first ever UMaine player to score over 1,000 points and eclipse 500 assists in a career. She played in 117 games with the Black Bears, starting in 112 of those. Saar was the America East Rookie of the Year in 2018. The MTSU Lady Blue Raiders won the Conference USA Championship this past season, advancing to the NCAA Tournament where they were ousted by the University of Tennessee in a first round game.

“I am delighted Dor decided to join the Lady Raider program,” Insell said. (Saar) is the consummate team player, she’s a great passer, has great vision and she gets everybody involved. She has tremendous quickness to blow by defenders then if you back off any she knocks down shots from great range. (Saar’s) basketball IQ is through the roof. With what we already have coming in our guard positions are unbelievable. The women’s basketball program at Middle Tennessee is where it needs to be.”

Saars former coach Amy Vachon said, “Dor has given everything to Maine women’s basketball over these last four years. She will leave Maine as one of the best point guards ever to wear the blue and white. While it will be strange seeing Dor wear a different uniform, I will always be a fan and cheer for Dor Saar. I wish her nothing but the best in her future.”
