The Husson baseball team returned back home to Alfond Diamond at the Winkin Complex in Bangor on Saturday afternoon to continue their five game North Atlantic Conference series with Northern Vermont-Lyndon. The Eagles would make it eight straight victories, all in conference play with 3-1 and 3-2 wins over the Hornets.
In the first game, Husson got a fifth inning RBI sacrifice fly from Tyler Parke to score Kobe Rogerson that turned out to be the game winner. Nick Swift had an RBI double and two hits for the Eagles, and Arika Warren also had a pair of hits. Cam Graham (2-1) won on the mound allowing just one run on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
Husson built a 2-0 lead in game two on RBI singles in the first and second inning from Chris Ewanik and Warren, before NVU-Lyndon tied it on a sacrifice fly in the third and an RBI single in the fifth. A fielders choice RBI from Warren in the home half of the sixth would provide the difference and the doubleheader sweep. The Hornets had a chance in their final at bat on a walk and a single with two outs, but Eagles center fielder David Leblanc robbed a tying hit by Jordan Cane with a diving catch in right center to end the game. Husson was outhit 7-3 in the second game, with Jesse Colford (1-1) picking up the pitching win in relief allowing one run on five hits in 3.0 innings. The Eagles are now 8-4, 8-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Hornets drop to 0-6, 0-3 NAC. The teams are scheduled to play two more conference games on Sunday with game one at 12 p.m.
