In a news release on Thursday, some exciting news about the 2016 Senior League World Series was announced. The blind draw for the World Series will be held at noon on Monday, June 20th, at Shawn T. Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.
In more exciting news, the championship game will be televised on ESPN on Saturday, August 6th at 2:07 p.m. From 2007 through 2014, ESPNU broadcast the title game. ESPN2 had the broadcast the title game last year.
The opening ceremonies will be Saturday, July 30th. The games will begin the following day. The semifinals will be held at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 4th. August 5th will be a rain date for the semifinals.
The World Series will again use a modified double-elimination format, with the 10 teams divided into two brackets of five teams each. One team in each bracket will receive a bye for the first round. Maine District 3 and U.S. Southeast will not be eligible for first-round byes this year, because they drew the byes last year.
Senior League Baseball is Little League’s baseball division for players ages 13 through 16. The 10-team World Series features five U.S. regional champs as well as champions from Asia-Pacific, Canada, Europe-Africa, and Latin America regions. In addition, the Maine District 3 champion gets a berth.
Mansfield Stadium has been the home of the World Series since 2002. A total of 11 Bangor World Series alumni have played in the majors, including Xander Bogaerts of the Boston Red Sox. Bogaerts played for the 2009 Aruba South L.L., San Nicolas, Aruba team.
Ticket Prices for the 2016 World Series will remain at $35 for an adult series pass and $25 for a student series pass. Day passes will remain $10.
