All three Boston professional teams were in action on Thursday night. The Celtics and Red Sox hosted games, while the Bruins were on the road in Buffalo.
At KeyBank Center in Buffalo, the Bruins scored three third period goals to pull away and win their sixth straight game with a 5-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
Brad Marchand, Matt Grzeclyk, David Pastrnak, Nick Ritchie, and David Krejci scored the goals for the B’s who improve to 27-12-6. Jeremy Swayman stopped 29 of 30 shots in net to improve his record to 5-1-0 with Boston this season. The teams finish off a three game week against one another on Friday night.
At TD Garden in Boston, the Celtics played without Jaylen Brown but got 32 points from Kemba Walker to beat the Phoenix Suns 99-86.
Jayson Tatum added 15 points, Marcus Smart 11, and Payton Pritchard 10. Phoenix (42-17) has the second best record in the league, as the C’s improved their record to 32-27. Boston is in Brookyln to face the Nets on Friday night.
At Fenway Park, the Seattle Mariners were held to just three hits but made them count as they defeated the Red Sox 7-3 in 10 innings in the first game of a four game series.
Rafael Devers hit a solo homerun his sixth of the season for Boston (12-8), and Hunter Renfroe had an RBI single. The Sox got their other run on a wild pitch. Ty France had a two run double for Seattle (12-7), and the M’s won it in extras on a RBI double from Sam Haggerty and a three-run homer from Mitch Haniger. Nick Pivetta got a no decision on the mound allowing just two runs on one hit in 6.0 innings. Adam Ottavino got a blown save, and Darwinzon Hernandez (0-1) was tagged in the loss. A pair of left handers head to the hill on Friday night, with Martin Perez for Boston and Yusei Kikuchi for Seattle.
