The Thomas College Terriers ended a program record 15 game winning streak by the Husson Eagles on Thursday afternoon with a 6-1 North Atlantic Conference baseball win at Alfond Diamond on the campus of Husson University in Bangor.
David Leblanc gave the Eagles their only lead of the game with an RBI single in the third inning to make it 1-0. Bradly Smith tied it for the Terriers with an RBI single in the sixth, before Devin Grindle gave the visitors the lead for good with an RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh. Thomas (8-5, 7-3 North Atlantic Conference) put it out of reach in the ninth inning with four more on another Grindle sacrifice fly, and then three more unearned runs helped by an error and a passed ball. Brandon Smith led Husson with two hits and Jake Gregiore (1-1) took the pitching loss in relief. Kyle Gleason had three hits for Thomas College, while Smith, Ryan Kapelmann, and Austin Stebbins each had two hits. Dylan Copeland (3-1) won on the mound allowing one run (none earned) on five hits in a complete game effort.
Husson is now 15-5, 15-1 in the North Atlantic Conference and will play four more games against Thomas this weekend with two in Waterville on Saturday and then two in Bangor on Sunday. The four games will end regular season NAC play for the Eagles, who then have one matchup left which will be non-conference when they visit the University of Southern Maine for a single nine inning contest scheduled for May 9th.
