BUCKSPORT- Ty Giberson didn’t give up a hit or a run in 4.0 innings pitched on Saturday afternoon, helping to propel the Bucksport Golden Bucks to a 4-1 Class C North baseball win over the Central Red Devils.
Bucksport (3-1) took control early. Logan Stanley led off in the bottom of the first with an infield single, stole second, and then scored when a ball hit by Gavin Holyoke was misplayed by Central second baseman Ivan Tibbetts to make it 1-0. Holyoke stole second and would eventually score on an RBI groundout from Owen Gaudreau. The Golden Bucks added on in the third and the fourth innings. Giberson singled in Holyoke in the third, and Stanley doubled in Jordan Melenfant in the fourth to make it 4-0. Central (2-1) got into the hit and run column in the fifth off reliever Cameron Rich. With two outs, Malachi Miller hit a groundball single to left, Jack Miller followed with a line drive single, and then Tibbetts singled in Malachi Miller that would finish the scoring on the day. Holyoke would pitch the final two innings for Bucksport allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
Giberson got the win on the mound allowing just two walks and striking out eight for Bucksport. Stanley had two hits, and Holyoke reached base twice and scored two runs. Simon Allen took the pitching loss for Central allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Malachi Miller had two of the four Red Devils hits on the day.
