The Husson Eagles split a pair of conference baseball games in Waterville on Sunday against Thomas College, losing the opener 15-7 before taking game two 18-5. The two games finished North Atlantic Conference play for the 2021 regular season for the Eagles.
In game one, Kyle Gleason, Shane MacNeill, and Ryan Kappelmann all homered to the lead Thomas to the win. MacNeill and Gleason had three hits a piece, while Kappelmann, Aaron Young, Jacob Lacroix, Bradly Smith, and Jacob Perry added two each to pace a 17 hit attack. Evan Holzworth had three RBI to lead Husson, while Hunter O’Connor (1-2) took the loss on the mound allowing four runs on eight hits in 2.2 innings.
In the second game, David Leblanc hit a two-run homer and had six RBI as Husson scored eight runs in the sixth inning to put it away and pick up the afternoon split. Leblanc had three hits, while Akira Warren also had three and added four RBI. Austin Snow and Brandon Smith had two hits each. Brandon Brunell (2-1) got the pitching win allowing two runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of relief. Gleason, Lacroix, and MacNeill all had two hits in the loss for the Terriers with MacNeill adding two RBI. Husson is now 18-6, and finishes the regular season at 18-2 in the North Atlantic Conference. Thomas College goes to 9-8, 8-6 in the NAC.
The Eagles have one more game left on the schedule for the regular season when they travel to play a nine inning non-conference contest with the University of Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon. USM swept four games with Husson in Bangor to begin the season.
