Maine baseball sweeps doubleheader at Hartford

The Maine baseball team bounced back after a series opening loss on Friday afternoon, by sweeping past the Hartford Hawks in a pair of seven inning games on Saturday by scores of 15-0 and 6-2 in America East action in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Game 1- The Black Bears used a nine run third inning and a great pitching performance from Alex McKenney to cruise to the win. Ryan Turrene had two hits and three RBI, Connor Goodman three hits and two RBI, while Sean Lawlor, Colby Emmertz, Quinn McDaniel, and Jake Rainess each had two driven in. Rainess and Emmertz each homered. McKenney (4-5) went 6.0 innings allowing no runs on just one hit with three walks and six strikeouts. Donnie Cahoon had the only Hartford hit with a third inning single.

Game 2- Scout Knotts had a game winning RBI double in the fifth inning to help complete the sweep. Maine would tack on two more unearned runs in the fifth, along with a Lawlor RBI single in the seventh. Jeff Mejia and Jake Marquez had two hits each, and Noah Lewis (4-4) picked up the pitching win allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits with three walks and five strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Treymayne Cobb Jr. had two hits and an RBI for Hartford. The Black Bears improve to 18-18 overall, 13-15 in America East. The Hawks are 16-17, all in AE play. The teams finish off the four game series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
