Big week for the Red Sox, Sea Dogs

June 21, 2021

As the calendar soon turns to July, the Boston Red Sox and Portland Sea Dogs have an important week on tap.

Boston (43-29) is coming off a series in which they lost two out of the three to the Kansas City Royals this past weekend, and now swings back into some American League East action. The Sox, who currently own the best road record in baseball, visit Tampa Bay (43-30), who is currently just a 1/2 game behind sitting in second place. After three games that start Tuesday in St. Petersburg at Tropicana Field, the club returns home to renew their rivalry with the New York Yankees at Fenway Park for a three game set beginning Friday night. New York is currently 38-33 and 4.5 games out of first, and plays host to Kansas City for three before heading to Fenway. In the only matchups so far this season Boston swept Tampa in three straight at home April 5-7, and also swept three at New York at Yankee Stadium June 4-6.

On the Double A level, the Portland Sea Dogs open up a six game series Tuesday night at Hadlock Field against the Yankees farm team the Somerset Patriots. Somerset (27-14) is in first place in the Northeast League, 3.0 games up on Portland (24-17). Chris Lessner will have photos and recaps from the Portland-Somerset game on Wednesday night, and will also be in attendance for the Boston-New York game on Saturday.
