Brooklyn assistant Udoka to be named Celtics new head coach

According to ESPN, the Boston Celtics on Wednesday afternoon said that they are finalizing a deal that will make current Brooklyn Nets assistant Ime Udoka their next head coach.

Udoka played independent professional basketball, spent time in the NBA Development League, and also was a player in the National Basketball Association first in 2004 with the Los Angeles Lakers and then again from 2006-2011 with the New York Knicks, Portland Trailblazers, San Antonio Spurs, and the Sacramento Kings.

Udoka, who is a native of Nigeria, began his coaching career in 2012 where he was with San Antonio until 2019, helping the Spurs win an NBA Title in 2014 under Greg Popovich. He most recently was with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019-20 and then this past season with Steve Nash in Brooklyn with the Nets.
