The Husson University Eagles made it four straight wins and also starts their conference season at 1-0 by defeating Curry College 21-14 at the Winkin Sports Complex in Bangor on Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) football action.
Nic Visser tossed two first half touchdown passes to Tyler Halls of 4 and 46 yards, before the Colonels of Curry College cut it to 14-7 at the half when Justin Mullaney hit Devon Hughes for a 21 yard score with 1:07 left in the second quarter. Jon Bell took in the third scoring pass from Visser halfway through the third quarter of 49 yards and the lead was extended for the Eagles to 21-7. Curry (2-3, 0-2 CCC) got a 27 yard TD pass from Mullaney to Tahg Coakley with 1:20 left to play, but couldn’t recover the onside kick and Husson held on to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Visser would finish the day 15-26 passing for 271 yards and the three big touchdown throws. Garrett Poussard rushed 19 times for 103 yards. Halls caught six passes for 98 yards and the two first half scores, while Shawn Noel Jr. also caught four for 90 yards. Kaleb Caron had 11 total tackles for the defense. Mullaney had a solid game completing 29-50 for 291 yards and two touchdowns for Curry. He was also the leading rusher for the Colonels with 11 attempts for 35 yards. Miles Cogdell was the leading receiver with five catches for 49 yards. Neither quarterback threw an interception, but each team did lose a fumble. Husson is at home again next Saturday when they welcome in Endicott College in a 1 p.m. conference matchup.
