October 31, 2021

The Husson University men’s and women’s soccer teams both competed in the East Division Title contest of the NAC (league semifinals) on Sunday afternoon. Despite a great season by both squads this fall, their season would come to an end in a pair of tight games.

In Bangor at Boucher Field on the men’s side, the #3 seed University of Maine-Farmington got a goal from Cade McHugh in the 68th minute to upset top seed Husson 1-0.

UMF (11-4-1) got some revenge after a close 2-1 loss to the Eagles earlier in the season. The Beavers now advance to the NAC Championship game which will be played next Saturday against SUNY-Poly. Christian Beliveau had an assist on the game winner, and goalie Jonah Sautter stopped all three shots he faced. Alex Rechsteiner made two saves in the loss for Husson, who ends their season with a record of 13-3-3 suffering their first loss since September 22 and had an 11 game unbeaten streak also broken.

At Castine on Ritchie Field, the top seed and host Maine Maritime Academy Lady Mariners got a goal from MacKenzie Carter in the 88th minute to top #2 Husson 2-1.

Shannon Dowd gave Husson a 1-0 halftime lead when she scored at the 27th minute on an assist by Molly Ennis. Emma White evened the score on a helper from Carter for MMA just two minutes into the second half. Shie Smith made four saves on six shots for the Eagles, who end their season at 11-5-2. Bess MacArthur stopped two of three shots for Maine Maritime Academy, who improves to 10-6-0. The Mariners will play for the NAC Championship next Saturday against Cazenovia College.
