Caden McDuffie threw for five touchdowns and rushed for two more in leading the Cape Elizabeth Capers to a 53-8 win over Winslow in the Class C Football State Championship game at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland on Saturday evening. It is the first football state title in Cape Elizabeth history.
Nick Laughlin caught three touchdown passes, while Jack Gorman had two touchdowns for the Capers.
McDuffie got the scoring started with a 26 yard touchdown run with 9:32 left in the first quarter. McDuffie connected with Laughlin for the only other score of the first quarter.
McDuffie connected with Gorman two times in the first five minutes of the second quarter. The McDuffie and Laughlin duo combined for two scores in the final 4:23 of the first half.
Cape (10-1) added a score in the third quarter and another in the fourth quarter on a McDuffie two yard run. McDuffie finished 8-10 for 245 yards and his five touchdowns. Evan Bourget scored the Black Raiders touchdown late in the fourth quarter. Winslow finishes the season with a 7-3 record.
