The Princeton Tigers used a 21-0 run in the first half on Sunday afternoon to take early control, and would cruise to an 82-43 win over the Maine Black Bears in a non-conference women’s basketball matchup played at Jadwin Gymnasium in Princeton, New Jersey.
Maine (2-5) took an early 4-2 lead on a driving layup by Alba Orois and a jump shot by Anne Simon, but then didn’t score again for the next 7:50. Princeton (5-1) scored the last 15 points of the opening quarter, and 21 straight points overall to make it 23-4 early in the second quarter. The Tigers took advantage of a 14-1 turnover margin in the first half and led 39-17 at the break. Things didn’t get any better for the Black Bears in the third being outscored 28-11, and would trail by as many as 41 in the final 20 minutes. Maine ended their four game road trip at 2-2, with wins over BU and Yale before two straight losses that also included a double overtime defeat Friday at Army.
Maeve Carroll was the only Black Bear to score in double figures finishing with 13 points and five rebounds. Orois, Serena Hodgson, and Adrianna Smith each added six points, while Olivia Rockwood had five. Maine had 21 turnovers leading to 23 points for Princeton (5-1). Abby Meyers led the Tigers with 21 points and five rebounds. Julia Cunningham had 14 points, while both Grace Stone and Maggie Connolly chipped in 11 points a piece. Maine returns home to the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor to host Drexel next Saturday at 12 p.m.
