December 11, 2021

The Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers never trailed on Saturday afternoon, taking an early commanding lead and rolling to a 88-69 non-conference men’s basketball victory over the Husson Eagles at Newman Gymnasium in Bangor.

WPI (8-1) scored the first 14 points of the game leading by as many as 20 in the first half and by 18 at the halftime break. That advantage would grow to 27 in the second half as the Engineers shot 50% from the floor and also knocked down 10 three-pointers in the win. Jeremy Moronta and Justin Thompson had 11 points a piece in the loss for Husson (4-4). Moronta had four rebounds and Thompson had five. Derek Collin and DJ Bussey chipped in eight points a piece. Colin McNamara and John Lowther had 16 points a piece for the guests. Kahleb Downing added 13 points, Aidan Callahan had 11, and Logan O’Donnell had 10 points. WPI received votes in the Division III men’s basketball Top 25 poll this past week.

Husson will return to action Monday night when they host Bates in more non-conference action at 6 p.m.
