EAST CORINTH- Izzy Allen scored a game high 30 points (17 in the first half) on Tuesday afternoon, leading the Central Red Devils to a 46-35 Class C North girls basketball win over the Dexter Tigers at Central High School.
In a back and forth first quarter with both teams holding as much as a three point lead, it was Central scoring the last hoop of the opening eight minutes by Allen for a 12-10 Red Devils advantage. The hosts would match their biggest lead of the day by scoring nine in a row sparked by seven points from Allen to start the second, capping off an 11-0 run to make it 21-10. Central led 24-19 at the halftime break. Allen again helped push the lead back to 10 to start the third quarter with five quick points that included a three-pointer, and Dexter (1-1) never got closer than five the rest of the way. The Red Devils hit 5-6 from the line in the final two minutes of the game to improve their record to 3-0.
Allen added six rebounds and four assists to her point total in the Central win. Allen was named the Eastern Maine Sports Media Bangor Savings Bank Player of the Game. Abigail Young added nine points and 11 rebounds, Rylee Speed had three points, while Alexyss Curtis and Alexis Whitty both had two points a piece. Dexter was led by Hannah Dean who had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Cally Gudroe also got into double figures with 11. Abilene Corson and Elizabeth Kinney had four points each, while Jozlynn Paige chipped in three points. Both teams are right back in action on Wednesday as Dexter travels to Howland to battle PVHS, and Central heads North for a matchup with Stearns.
