Cook and Raynes lead Foxcroft to girls basketball win over Dexter

DOVER-FOXCROFT— Kiya Cook and Annie Raynes scored 11 points each to lead the Foxcroft Academy girls basketball team to a 38-32 win over Dexter on Monday night.

After a defensive struggle the first four minutes of the game, the teams went on a scoring outburst as Dexter got five first quarter points from freshman Abi Corson to take an 11-8 lead after the first eight minutes.

The teams combined for 10 points in the second quarter, as the Tigers held a 15-14 halftime advantage. Both teams shot 6-7 from the free throw line in the first half.

Jozlynn Paige had eight points in the third quarter and Elizabeth Kinney nailed a three pointer late in the quarter to help the Tigers take a 26-23 advantage heading into the final eight minutes.

Cook took over in the final quarter, making key plays on both sides of the ball, including getting seven points. Foxcroft improves to 9-6 and will host Houlton on Wednesday.

Cook also recorded six rebounds, three steals, and two assists. She named the Bangor Savings Bank Player of the Game. Raynes added four rebounds and four steals. Destiny Weymouth contributed six points, four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Sam Ossenfort had five points and five steals. Abby Knapp and Kaitlyn Lord each had two points, while Madyson Kimball added one point.

Paige scored a game high 14 points and had seven rebounds for the Tigers. Hannah Dean recorded six points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two blocks. Corson had five points (all in the first quarter), Kinney added three points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Cally Gudroe added two points and four steals, while Lillian Cooley chipped in with two points. Dexter (9-5) will host Central on Wednesday.
