BANGOR— Will Kusnierz and Avery Gagnon combined for 39 points to lead the Dexter Tigers to a 58-48 win over Fort Kent in a Class C boys semifinal game played Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
The Tigers started the game on a 13-2 run. Dexter held a 20-4 lead after the first quarter with Kusnierz leading the way with nine points. Fort Kent went on a 13-0 run in the second quarter and cut the deficit to 25-20 at intermission.
Dexter went on an 11-2 run to start the second half. Fort Kent’s Mr. Maine semifinalist Austin Delisle committed his fourth foul with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter. The Warriors outscored Dexter 6-3 the remaining of the quarter with Delisle on the bench as they cut the deficit to 41-32 going into the final eight minutes.
Dexter secured the win by going 9-12 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Kusnierz scored a team high 22 points (7-9 from the FT line). Gagnon had 17 points and eight rebounds. Seth Robbins had 10 points and three steals. Dexter (15-5) will play in the regional championship game on Monday night at 7:45 against George Stevens Academy.
Ethan Daigle led the Warriors with 12 points. Fort Kent finishes the season with a record of 19-2.
